THE WORLD HERITAGE CONVENTION TURNS 50 - The protection, conservation and valorisation of the world heritage and future prospects for the management of UNESCO sites

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention (1972 - 2022), on 13 September 2022, the Department of Human and Social Sciences, Cultural Heritage (DSU) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Rome, organised the interesting study day on: THE WORLD HERITAGE CONVENTION TURNS 50 (1972-2022) - The protection, conservation and enhancement of the World Heritage and future prospects for the management of UNESCO sites in Italy. The event proposed a shared reflection on the role of institutions, scientific research and all the most relevant actors in the field of protection, conservation and enhancement of Italy's UNESCO heritage. Italy holds the largest number of assets in the world inscribed on the UNESCO list, with 58 sites declared World Heritage Sites. The recognition of the exceptional universal value attributed to the national heritage commits Italy to guaranteeing the intellectual and financial resources needed to define appropriate measures and actions for the future management and safeguarding of our cultural identity for the next generations. This study day therefore aimed at opening a multidimensional discussion on the culturally and economically sustainable management of the UNESCO sites in Italy.
