Aegeans on Smoke-Shrouded Lemnos: A Re-assessment of the Mycenaean Evidence from Poliochni and other sites

The study of distribution patterns of imported Mycenaean pottery in the Northern Aegean had a profound effect on our understanding of both the local political structures and of the Late Helladic long-distance trade towards the Western Anatolia. While much was written on the finding of Mycenaean pottery in Troy VI-VII,2 little attention was given to the evidence from the islands (Lemnos, Samothrace, Imbros) that formed the 'northern string' connecting Mainland Greece with the routes toward the Straits of Dardanelles." In order to define the boundaries of Mycenaean expansion in Northern Greece, we should clarify, first, when Mainland Greece prospectors were in such a district, and, second, what the nature of their evidence was.".
