Sum rules of special functions, revisited

Bilinear sum rules of special functions, arising in the mathematical theory of the FEL and in plasma physics, are rederived in a very simple way, without solving partial differential equations. Some other results are also briefly discussed. © 1988 Società Italiana di Fisica.
