Abstract:
The nextgenerationofaccelerators,fromthecompacttothelargeinfrastructurededicatedtohigh
energy physics,ishighlydemandingintermsofacceleratinggradients.ToupgradeperformancesofX
band linacsat11.424GHzmanyresourcesaredevotedtoachievehighacceleratinggradientsandatthe
same timetoobtainahighreliability.Intheframeworkofathree-yearfundedprojectbytheVth
Committee ofthe INFN to the LaboratoriNazionalidiFrascati (LNF) andtothe LaboratoriNazionalidi
Legnaro (LNL). Withinabroadinternationalcollaborationthe LNF has beeninvolvedinthedesign,
manufacture andtestofcompacthighpowerstandingwave(SW)sectionsoperatingathighfrequency
while LNLisactivelyinvolvedinthedevelopmentofnewmaterialsandmultilayersusingPVD(Physical
Vapor Deposition)methods.Wewillreportaboutthestatusoftheacceleratingdeviceandofthedif-
ferent ongoingR&Dactivitiesandcharacterizationproceduressuchastestsofdifferentmaterialsand
metallic coatings.
