Libro VIII: il testo conclusivo del "De immenso"

Capitolo di libro
Data di Pubblicazione:
2020
Abstract:
The eighth and last book of "De immenso" is one of Bruno's last writings and recalls the antichristian caustic spirit of the "Spaccio de la bestia trionfante". The text of Book VIII was probably completed in the spring of 1591, perhaps close to the time of the composition of the no less polemical proemial letter to the three Latin philosophical poems published at the beginning of the volume containing the "De monade-De immenso". Bruno was in Frankfurt at the time: he had just returned from a mysterious trip to Switzerland, but his eyes were already set on Italy. He had received Giovanni Mocenigo's invitation and was at a decisive moment of his life. Felice Tocco notes that the trilogy of Latin poems may be considered as Bruno's philosophical testament. Indeed, Bruno himself indicates De immenso as the most important part of his philosophical legacy, in which the truth is not only sought through continuous study, but it is found, 'discovered'.
