Governance of Water Resources and Environmental Quality by Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Different types of projects to be subjected to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) can effect the water resources producing significant variations in the hydrological regime and quality characteristics of aquatic systems. Therefore, the EIA should include a thorough analysis of the effects different planning choices may directly and indirectly produce on the system. The paper focuses on dams that are aimed at satisfying energy production, irrigation or human consumption and flood lamination. Different issues of an environmental impact study, such as the characterization of the site prior to the realization of the project, the analysis of the system components to be affected bty the project and the evaluation of the overall environmental impact are showed and discussed.
