This article aims to face the problem of truth immediately after Spinoza's death. Spinoza's philosophy, in fact, finds a part of its fortune in the freethinkers circles and in the libertine literature, giving important topics in order to fight the superstition and the lies of the political power. Nonetheless, in the context of the european diffusion of Spinoza's and Descartes's thought, the relationship between truth and the falsity be- comes more soft, as it results from the gradual substitution of the concept of true with the concept of adequate. In this essay the problem has been inquired starting from the publication of the Treatise of three imposters and from the works of Toland, underlying some attempt to draw a line between true and false, but at the same time trying to show the problems of these attempts.
