Propagation of electron cyclotron waves in the presence of anisotropic electron distributions

The effects of the anisotropy of the electron distribution on the propagation and the absorption of electron cyclotron waves propagating perpendicularly to the external magnetic field, are analyzed. Considerable variations of the absorption with the anisotropy are found for the ordinary mode at the fundamental cyclotron frequency and the extraordinary mode at the second harmonic.
