This paper proposes some preliminary remarks on a few Cretan plaques of Archaic period with male subjects. Firstly, the paper examines a few types of plaques from Gortyna, underlining how the newly invented types could be read in connection to male gender and social identity. The second topic concerns a group of clay plaques from Eastern area of the island, where the most significant feature is the attitude of the figure.
