Abstract:
Combustion is required in production of various industrial products. To maintain continuously efficient and safe combustion process in the furnaces, operators must measure O2 (0-21%), CO (0-10 000 ppm) and CH4 (0-5%) concentrations integrated over path length from 1 m up to 25 m at gas temperatures from ambient up to +1500 C and gas pressures around atmospheric. We demonstrate in-situ CO, CH4 and O2 concentration measurements by means of Servomex's laser analysers based upon 2f-harmonic wavelength modulation spectroscopy. Laser analysers have been used for combustion control in cracking furnaces for production ethylene/propylene, various heating furnaces in glass production, oil refineries, thermal oxidisers and others. These unique in-situ laser measurements allow continuous safe and efficient operation of combustion processes, which also reduces harmful emission to the environment.
