Abstract:
The linearized ship-wave interaction problem is studied in time domain by a potential-flow model. The resulting boundary value problem is recast in terms of integral equations, and solved numerically by a panel method. A transient-test technique, based on the interaction of a wave packet with the advancing ship, is numerically simulated and allows for the efficient evaluation of the transfer function of the ship-fluid system (the so called Response Amplitude Operator). Results are given for a variety of ship forms and compared against experimental data to show the good capabilities of the developed numerical algorithm.
