Abstract:
In the SW of the Sicily (Italy) coastline the ruins of the ancient greek settlement of Selinunte are located. The Selinunte Archaeological Park has been largely investigated by both excavation and geophysical surveys. To support these campaigns Selinunte has been flown over, since 1994, by different remote-sensing platforms aimed at identifying unknown and hypothesized archaeological features. In this framework an airborne survey utilizing the MIVIS hypersprectral scanner has been carried out; the calibrated MIVIS hyperspectral data have been analysed to generate classification images. The output images have been interpreted to draw peculiar features related to structures showing good agreement with an ancient buried street pattern, previously and only partially pointed out by archaeologists.
