Abstract:
This paper presents the results of the application of a geostatistical methodology aimed to provide information to improve the delineation of soil mapping units of the 1:50,000 soil map of the Venice lagoon watershed. The methodology presented is suitable in the case of variable with not stanionary means and non stationary residuals and is applied to Brenta alluvial plain, which is characterized by weak morphological evidences. The analyses focused on clay contents at three different depths. Sequential Gaussian simulations (SGS) were implemented to simulate clay residuals of the different soil-landscapes units, in order to assess and quantify local uncertainty taking explicitly into account the mean value of each unit.
Results show a good agreement with the general pattern of soil-landscapes units in the plain, integrating the traditional soil map and the geostatistical approach in elucidating the clay content distribution over the study area
