Abstract:
The blue-LED photocoagulator, named 'EmoLED', is a photohaemostatic device that enables an immediate stop of the bleeding in superficial wounds. The working principle is based on a light-induced coagulative process, ensured by a spectrally selective and spatially localized photothermal effect. The device is based on LED technology, emitting light in the 400 - 450 nm range to irradiate a bleeding wound. Light is mainly absorbed by the haemoglobin (i.e. the blood) and the resulting photocoagulative effect is localized in the bleeding area. © 2014 AEIT.
