Identification of characteristic situations of landslide dam hazard|Individuazione di situazioni caratterizzate da pericolosità di occlusione d'alveo per frana

An analysis at regional scale of the landslide dam hazard was carried out in Umbria (Central Italy). Starting from the IFFI (Inventario dei Fenomeni Franosi in Italia, i.e. Landslide Inventory in Italy) the position and size of each landslide was considered in relation to the river network and an estimation of the possible dam lake dimensions was performed. Using some simple empirical formulas it was then possible to calculate the peak discharge that could be generated by a dam break.
