Abstract:
The conservation of cultural heritage assets is a hard target in which different disciplines are involved. This goal can be achieved only with an interdisciplinary approach by properly manage of different disciplines in a sinergycal way. An interdisciplinary protocol of managing detached wall paintings is described in this contribution through two exemplary case studies of detached wall paintings are presented in this contribution to defining: the Green cloister of S.M. Novella (Firenze) that refers to detached wall paintings on Masonite; the case study of San Miniato al Monte Abbey about fiberglass. The first step of the interdisciplinary approach concerns the macroscopic investigation by non-destructive tools (VIS, IR and multispectral). The diagnostic proceeds through the second step for completing the conservation state recognition by spot analysis (using non-destructive techniques as well as analysis on micro-samplings with benchtop instruments). These two steps allow to characterize conservation problems and decay sources and to select representative parameters for monitoring of conservation risks. The results of monitoring are strongly related not only to the characteristics of the material but also to the evaluation of products' performance and practices of restoration (quality control). The parameters rate of variation, determined in monitoring campaigns, is fundamental for elaborate a proper protocol for the schedule maintenance.
