L'orto oltre l'orto. Coltura e cultura dell'orto nel Medioevo

The vegetable garden is a reality that, if you think about it, has accompanied man ever since his world took on urban connotations, associating throughout its history a double recreational and productive vocation: on the one hand as a pleasant place and refuge from the worries of body and soul, on the other a source of food sustenance or even the only means of survival in times of difficulty. Starting from this ideal concept of the garden in its classical tradition, which associates the notion of "culture" with that of "cultivation", the essay analyzes the history of the garden in the Middle Ages, when it continued to develop in such a strong and rooted way to find its highest expression in behavioral models, in hagiographic literature and as an important economic reality, widespread at all levels and of very wide use.
