Abstract:
new interpretative theories have been formulated by the scholars about, in particular, two very important topics of Early Medieval Sardinian history: 1) the possible presence of Muslim permanent communities on the island between the 8th and the 11th century, and 2), closely interconnected with the first, the origin of the Giudicati after the dissolution of the ancient Archonate of Sardinia. The period between the 6th and the 11th century -was full of events of major political importance for Sardinia, but documented by sources which always provide great interpretative difficulties. They are quite rare and, with regard to the relations between Sardinia and the Muslim world, in many cases, the sources with a remarkable chronological distance from the events described reproduce a few others of the 9th - 10th century, almost without any new data.
