Rediscovering the authenticity of a polychrome artefact of Centuripe. Synergies between archaeology and scientific investigation. The study of the polychrome Centuripe ware is quite difficult because it has been largely forged. Accordingly, the vessels of illicit origin belonging to this class should always be tested through physicochemical analyses. This contribution concerns precisely the case study of a new vase of the Centuripe class, of illicit origin, confiscated in 1992 by the Guardia di Finanza and kept in the Interdisciplinary Regional Museum of Catania. It was previously considered a forgery, but non-invasive archaeometric investigations (MA-XRF and XRD) have now revealed its authenticity.
