Paesaggi funerari a Veio: spaziando nella necropoli di Grotta Gramiccia agli inizi dell'età del ferro

This paper presents the preliminary results of spatial analyses focused on the necropolis of Grotta Gramiccia at Veii. The description of the evolution of the 'deathscape' of this cemetery between the 9th and the 8th century BC (EIA 1 and 2) reflects the continuous changes among the funerary ideology of the Early Iron Age community of Veii. In fact, the restudy of the 1913-15 excavation journals by N. Malavolta has permitted to reconstruct the stratigraphic sequence of different clusters among the necropolis revealing a multitude of types of use for the burial ground. The authors discuss the identification of patterns within the funerary landscape as well as the problematics that arise from the analyses of a necropolis that was excavated over a century ago.
