abstract:
The current study analyses the possible permanence of Cervantes in Sardinia on which many doubts are still present. Indeed, there is no documentary or literary certainty about his presence in Cagliari. However, his stay in the city seems to be proved by some documents found in the Archivo General de Simancas. Many charters, indeed, show that in 1573, after the conquest of Tunis, the tercio of don Lope de Figueroa was transferred to the Mediterranean island to overwinter. Among that company, the famous Spanish writer was enlisted as a soldier aventajado.
