Abstract:
Thanks to new-omics technologies, the last ten years have witnessed an explosive growth of
available information to correlate genomes and their structure to organismic and
(ecosystem) systemic functions. With this new 'sea of knowledge'we may provide answers to
questions, which were beyond imagination not too long ago. The power of genome
sequencing increased from one in many years (the human genome) to one every few hours
1, affecting all corners of the Life Sciences including the diversity of marine biology topics.
The so called 'High-Throughput-Next Generation Sequencing'(HT-NGS) technologies, which
produce over 100 times more data than the previous ones, are paving the way to novel
applications in biology and significantly widen the opportunities of-omics analyses of
environmentally derived samples. Especially in the field of marine biotechnology ...
