Estimation of asbestos-cement roofing in the territory of the Lazio Region

This study is part of a wider research effort on the issue of asbestos-cement roofing mapping carried out by CNR-INSEAN researchers. This work carried out in collaboration with the ISPRA and DIAP researchers (Fac. Engineering, La Sapienza University), lists the preliminary results, that aim to evaluate the potential of CORINE Land Cover data, in order to provide estimates on the presence of asbestos-cement roofing in the territory of the Lazio Region so it overcomes the lack of data and homogeneity. Particularly with GIS techniques, both CORINE Land Cover cartographic data available at national level, as well as asbestos census data for the purposes of the Decreto Ministeriale n. 101/2003, as well as other MIVIS data selected for areas representative of the use of the soil at regional level. The results obtained, although requiring further methodological verification, can be considered encouraging, opening up to a possible use of the methodology to provide reliable estimates of asbestos-cement roofs throughout the country.
