Abstract:
A Monte Carlo simulation of the multiple-scattering
influence on ground-based Raman lidar measurements
is presented. An iterative procedure is introduced in
order to implement Monte Carlo simulation from
experiment result. Our results show that for the typical
cirrus cloud, the presence of the multiple scattering can
lead to an underestimation of the extinction coefficient
as large as 200% whereas the backscattering coefficient
is almost unaffected. From the comparison of corrected
lidar ratio and the phase function, used in Monte Carlo
simulation, the shape and size of scattering particle can
be estimated.
