abstract:
The theme of water is one of the main threads that matches the history of gardens form the origins to contemporaneity. Water is a recurring and main element in garden garden and landscape history, essential for the life of gardens themselves, has gained during historical evolution symbolic, practical and scenographic values. The considerable literary and iconographic documentation about the topic is a useful tool to comprehend the fundamental role of gardens' composition. Declined in static or dynamic forms, enclosed in geometrical or free shapes, present in natural or architectural "containers" it gives scenographic organicity and life to each and any historical garden known.
