«Ajantala-Pinocchio», a piece by the Nigerian Bode Sowande, stages the story of the child spirit Ajantala in the suburbs of Lagos, where he meets an African version of Collodi's Pinocchio. This essay analyses the structure of Sowande's piece in comparision with the puppet's adeventures, highlighting archetypes, similarities and connections.
