Documentation and analysis of the seismic fissures of the Stoa of the Springs at Hierapolis using thermographic imaging from a tethered aerostatic baloon

Capitolo di libro
Data di Pubblicazione:
2016
Abstract:
during the 2014 campaign by the italian archaeological mission in hierapolis of Phrygia, as part of the marmora Phry- giae Project, a thermal imaging camera was used to conduct an extensive infrared thermographic (irT) survey of the monuments situated in the central part of the urban area, in direct relation to the fissures produced by the seismic fault that crosses the city. The use of this documentation in association with a tethered aerostatic balloon was tested in the stoa of the springs area. The irT sur- veys actually made it possible to document and assess the extent of the effects produced by the seismic fissures (and the gaseous emissions they give off) on the conserved structures of the monument, both marble and travertine, and a more general evaluation of the state of conservation of the walls and the deterioration of their surfaces.
