Efficient and broadly tunable eye-safe laser operation in a single crystal of Tm-doped strontium fluoride (Tm:SrF2)

We report on the growth, spectroscopic characterization, and first laser operation in this material, with a slope efficiency of 50% at 2015 nm. The laser was also continuously tunable between 1840 and 2020 nm.
