abstract:
This paper tackles the issue of those 'techniques' that can be used to structure online collaborative processes and encourage effective participation, so to promote individual and group knowledge building. The authors propose to consider the structure on an online activity along three dimensions: Task, Team(s) and Time. The paper then analyses five different collaborative techniques (Jigsaw, Peer Review, Role Play, Case Study and Discussion) to illustrate how the three dimensions interact, thus allowing to structure and scaffold the collaborative process in online activities.
