Abstract:
Membrane-aided gas separation systems are today widely accepted and, in many cases, used as a unit operation for generation, separation and purification of gases in chemical, petroleum, allied and gas industries. This chapter provides an overview of the Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs)-based membranes most used in gas separation along with their applications and potentialities. The interest in these specific membranes lies in the fact that they find a large room of application, in hydrogen separation, hydrocarbon recovery and separation, and CO2 capture. Specifically, their role in these separations is discussed, spotlighting the type of membrane materials to use for each specific application. Advantages and shortcomings are considered with relation to the materials and molecules to separate, looking at the attractive overcoming of the conventional trade-off relationship between selectivity and permeability.
