Abstract:
Two Atlantic Cadlina species (Cadlina pellucida and Cadlina laevis) from European coasts have been subjected to chemical investigation. The new furanosesquiterpene laevidiene (1) has been isolated, together with other previously reported compounds, from C. laevis and its structure has been determined by spectroscopic methods. A dietary relationship between C. pellucida and Spongia agavicina is also suggested on the basis of chemical analysis of their secondary metabolites. The dietary habits of the two Cadlina species are finally discussed in terms of radula morphology in the Chromodorididae family.
