abstract:
What did Locke's name mean and which of his works were read in 18th-century Italy? For the disciples of Newton and the new philosophy on the one hand, and for the critics of the Enlightenment on the other hand, from the first decades of the eighteenth century onwards - even before the papal censorship - Locke's metaphysical, pedagogical, economic and political thought was a constant source of inspiration or criticism: it was a significant presence.
