Abstract:
The objective of the paper is to investigate port customer value creation in the seaport according to an inter-organizational perspective. Characterized by a myriad of supply chains, each of which represents a specific entity with particular logistics needs, seaport can be interpreted as an interdependent network of actors that exchange resources, share knowledge and build supply chain capabilities in the pursuit of port customers' satisfaction, by meaning port customers in the broadest way (shipping companies, freight forwarders and shippers). In this network, Port authority could assume an entrepreneurial role, in this respect, by making direct investments in the hinterland or play a facilitating role, through the development of strategic partnerships with inland ports, dry ports and co-operation or "co-opetition" with other, neighboring, seaports. To this end, a preliminary case study has been carried out on the contribution of the port of Naples to value creation process of a manufacturing firm, located in its own hinterland.
