Abstract:
This paper is aimed at proposing some considerations about the relationship between two of the main Phoenician gods, namely Melqart and Eshmun. Although both the deities are well-recognizable in their own individuality, "identity" and functions - as primarily shown by the names mlqrt and >?mn and the specific meanings of them - certain data testify to the existence of a strong connection that deeply links the two superhuman characters, to the point of producing a sort of convergence (?) of their personalities. Thus, starting from the relatively recent discovery in Ibiza of a Phoenician inscription addressed to >?mnmlqrt, the present study will try to retrace and delineate the different forms acquired by the divine relation and their specific connotations.
