abstract:
New thiophene-containing polyazomethines have been synthesized by chemical polymerization in the presence of either copperII underbar perchlorate or its ammonia complex. The monomers were prepared by condensation of 2-thiophenecarboxyaldehyde with aromatic diamines. The structure of both monomers and polymers has been studied by FT-IR, NMR, ESR and X-ray spectroscopies. The polymers, in oxidized form, contain from 0.5 up to 2.0 perchlorate anions per unit dependending on the reaction conditions and nature of oxidizing agent. Their electrical conductivities varied in the range 10(-2) - 10(-5) S/cm.
