The book contains the results of four years of research in Tuscan archives and offers numerous examples of Italian lexemes found in documents written in Latin prior to the 13th century. The 1500 words thus backdated (in respect to the existing Italian dictionaries, which consider only lexemes present in vernacular texts) give us a clearer picture of the vernaculars of Italy, not only of Tuscany, in the 11tn and 12th centuries.
