abstract:
In the general framework of an approach that sees the closely related survey of neuroscience and philosophical thought, the essays collected in the volume as a whole develop two lines of research. One is that, thanks to the contributions of scientists and psychologists (Alberto Oliverio, Micaela Morelli and Riccardo Manzotti) of psychoanalysts (Simona Argentieri) and bioengineering (Aldo Vanini), will fix the attention on the neurobiological, psychological, and psychoanalytical physical remember. The other, more specifically philosophical, is declined in three directions. The first - with essays by Stefania Achella, Giuseppe D'Anna and Rosario Diana - it directs the analysis of the role played by the remembrance and anticipate in the process of identity construction. The second - with contributions from Fiorella Battaglia, Anna Donise, Sabine Marienberg and Sara Fortuna - focuses on the role of remembering in anthropology and linguistics, as well as the identification of certain diseases of memory. The third, finally - with contributions from Gabriella Baptist, Chiara de Luzenberger and Marco Boninu -, tends to define the regulatory function of memory. The volume consists of an Introduction and five parts thus entitled: 1) The Memory in Neurobiology and Cognitive Sciences, 2) Anthropology, Psychoanalysis and Philosophical Disease, 3) The Roots of the Identity and the "Inventio", 4) The Multiple Languages of Memory, 5) The Ethical Function of Memory. Concludes the book which appears in an Appendix an interview with Katia Crone and Julian Nida-Rümelin on philosophical questions raised by pharmacological enhancement of human function: a problem to be addressed, requires the establishment of a correct legal relationship between memory and ethics.
