Numerical and experimental analysis of the flow around a propeller behind a fully appended hull

abstract:
The flow around a propeller behind a fully appended hull is studied both experimentally and through integration of the unsteady RANS equations. Measurements have been performed by LDV on the vertical mid-plane of the rudder and in two transversal planes behind the propeller and behind the rudder. In the numerical approach, the flow around the real geometry of the rotating propeller has been simulated. To this purpose, the unsteady RANS solver developed at INSEAN, that can manage dynamically overlapping grids, has been used. The flow field is analyzed and the results from the two approaches are compared.
