Produrre nel santuario e produrre per il santuario: Il Levante tra la fine del II millennio e l'età ellenistica

Chapter
Publication Date:
2018
abstract:
By the expression "trabajo sagrado" we refer to all the human actions related to the production of an asset that, "performed" (therefore ritualized) in consecrate contexts, acquire a cultic nature. Different criteria have been chosen to present the data: the topographic location and the architecture of the cult buildings as expression of social and economic organization; the position of productive structures within the cult space, guarantying the purity of their products; the identification of productions external to the cult place, intended to provide subsistence and wellness to the sanctuary, or to supply the worshippers with the objects and the products to offer to the gods. Thus, "trabajo sagrado" is a productive activity when addressed and/or put under the control of the gods (and their earthly agents!), when it becomes itself object of a cult and when a god, e.g the Phoenician Khotar, takes on the function of artisan-like god.
