BROADBAND TURBULENT CONCVECTIVE VELOCITIES IN A FREE SURFACE, SHALLOW WATER JET SUBJECTED TO MEANDERING MOTION

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2019
abstract:
We report about a plane, free surface jet at Reynolds numbers Re=5000 and Froude number variable between 0.17 and 0.8. At investigated experimental conditions, the flow is strongly influenced by the onset of a meandering motion, which forces the jet to oscillate transversally. The jet preservers its selfsimilar properties and the meandering only affects statistics of spanwise velocity. Mechanisms of meandering onset are explored with high-density, correlation-based time-resolved Particle Tracking Velocimetry. The broadband celerity of propagation of meandering-induced velocity field perturbation components related to the horizontal and vertical velocity fluctuations u' and v' respectively, is extracted following the criterion proposed by [1, 2] and compared against classical kinematic statistics of the jet
