Abstract:
Within ARIS*ER (augmented reality in surgery network) - real time - radiology based information for the
surgeon is being developed. To safeguard usefulness of results, and avoid rejection, the system of evidence
based medicine and technology assessments (TA) during the life cycle of the product should be anticipated.
Predictive TA for innovation involves the comparison of (possible) technical solutions. Decisions in ARIS*ER
design work should be guided by TA: the (potential) performance ratings or utility of the compared
technologies should be assessed, as well as prediction of the future context, and estimated cost, in terms of
finances, but also other (undesirable) side effects. Furthermore, decisions in design can be aided by applying
graphic decision support tools, in which the factors as generated in TA are used as criteria.
