abstract:
Glaciers are among the best terrestrial indicators of climate change. The knowledge of the evolution over time of their size and their morphology is an essential element for the study of high-altitude environments and for understanding changes induced by ongoing climate change. In this context, the archives of glaciological data are becoming the object of a growing interest worldwide.
In the framework of the Alcotra project "GlaRiskAlp", the need has arisen to have a data base on the Piedmont glaciers, that would allow a fast and efficient access to the available information, for the purposes of the project. This paper describes the structure and functions of this relational database, which is easy to use, based on web technologies and created by means of open source software.
