abstract:
Ever since the arrival of the Catalan-Aragonese in Sardinia in 1323, their culture will be fully present on the island for a period of four centuries, and their influence would remain strong in the Spanish era as well, since the marriage of Ferdinand of Aragon to Isabella of Castile, the Catholic Monarchs, would not cause any fracture whatsoever from an artistic, institutional, linguistic or cultural point of view, and Sardinia will remain a part of the Catalan-Aragonese Crown. It is thanks to the existence of this continuity through the centuries that this research project is presented. Its goal is to study in a more accurate and precise way the different elements of Catalan origin that, through the centuries, became a part of Sardinian culture. This will be done through a comparative analysis of those same elements present in the other territories of the Crown of Aragon, and particularly in the Principality of Catalonia and the Kingdom of Valencia. Thus, this project intends to analyse from a historical, institutional, artistic and linguistic point of view, and also through the lens of traditions and popular culture the aforementioned Catalan-Aragonese presence in Sardinia.
