Finding simple parts in complex shapes

Chapter
Publication Date:
1990
abstract:
Complex shapes, represented by their skeleton, are analysed. A procedure is illustrated, able to originate a decomposition into regions which satisfy n simplicity properties. In particular, an example is discussed where the simple regions enjoy both the "nearly constant width" and "nearly constant orientation" properties. The obtained decomposition is represented by a tree-graph, whose nodes are the regions and the edges give evidence to the adjacency among the regions.
