abstract:
The Provincia Autonoma of Trento is an Italian at risk area for spread of cocaine in the population and of
stimulants among students [Sources: IPSAD-Italia, 2003; ESPAD-Italia, 2004; Ministry of the Interior
(DCDS); Department of Justice (DCSA); Drug Addiction Service of Trento]. In this area social and health
patterns linked to the use of these substances are quickly changing.
Cocaine consumption in the Provincia Autonoma of Trento is higher if compared with the national context
(10% in the Provincia Autonoma of Trento versus 8% in Italy) and students have a much higher risk to get in
contact with cocaine and stimulants.
From 2000 to 2004 there was an increase of arrests by Police for personal use of cocaine and stimulants.
Moreover, there is an increase of subjects under treatment in the local Services for drug addiction problems,
related to cocaine, crack, ecstasy, and amphetamines use.
An increase of the treatment demand is expected in the future due to the consumers augmentation.
