A new methodology in order to verify the ship's stability in the preliminary design stage

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
1992
abstract:
The paper deals with a method for the quick determination of the ship stability characteristics in the preliminary design stage. The proposed method provides the possibility both of judging the effects on stability of several shape parameters and also to determine the maximum vertical center of gravity position (KG) in any load condition of the ship. The proposed methodology derives from the rusults obtained and explained in provious papers that deal with the determination of the geometrical parameters involved in the stability calculations related to systematic series hull, because, usually the systematic serie hulls can be derived on the basis of the geometrical similarity. The paper deals also with the algorithms obtained by an application of this methodology to the Ridgely-Nevitt fishing vessels.
