Non perturbative direct and inverse bremsstrahlung in a static magnetic field: classical theory

abstract:
Gain and loss of electron kinetic energy through the mechanism of direct and inverse collisional bremsstrahlung, in the presence of a static magnetic field E, has been investigated within the framework of a non-relativistic classical theory. Interaction with iom is described by means of a Coulomb potential. Two special cases have been considered in detail, namely when the electric field of the wave is either linearly polarized along E, or circularly polarized in a plane perpendicular to E. The regimes of wave-induced electron velocities larger or comparable with the unperturbed ones have been investigated. Substan- tial differences fmm the resdts obtained in the weak field regime, previously considered in the literature, have been pointed out.
