abstract:
The market scenario for optical interconnections ( short and medium haul) presently demands low-cost technological solutions for amplifying integrated-optics devices at telecomm wavelengths. PMMA-based amplifiers can actually be a solution to this. Synergic research efforts of involved research centers are necessary and strongly recommended, for a timely assessment of the level of performances that can be offered with the present technology. The production and plug-and-play performing prototypes within 5-6 years from now will enable to enter the market.
