Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Paraoxonase 2 (PON2) is a calcium-dependent transmembrane lactonase which is ubiquitously expressed in a variety of tissues including kidney. In addition to the lactonase activity, PON2 also exhibits anti-oxidative and anti-atherosclerotic properties. Recent RNA-seq analysis on rat kidney demonstrated thatPON2 mRNA has been detected in several nephron segments including connecting tubule and cortical collecting duct, in which ENaC is also expressed. Here we investigated the regulation of PON2 in an experimental model of hypertension and different condition that modulates aldosterone-sensitive distal nephron.
