Gli impianti idrici della Chiesa di San Filippo. Appendice I

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2017
abstract:
In the course of the systematic investigations conducted on the eastern hill, important elements concerning the infrastructure that supplied water to the Sanctuary of St Philip have emerged. For the various building phases (mid 4th century, second half of the 6th century and 9th century AD) it was possible to identify the supply and drainage systems that served the baths used for therapeutic ablutions near the Tomb of the Apostle and the cistern situated under the altar in the area of the bema. Outside the Church, a network of pipes and tanks that supplied water to the various buildings of the Sanctuary was brought to light. The paper describes the plumbing networks in a diachronic key, providing new data for the reconstruction of this key aspect of the ritual use of the complex.
